Buick/Olds: 94 Park Ave htr control, climate control, fustrating

Question
Hello, this is a follow up to a previous asked question, when I start the car the temp on htr display will blink for about a minute, then the drivers side becomes colder that the pass side, with the dual zone off, the ext temp reads 182 deg all the time, I replaced the control unit on the dash like you suggested, and I have the same problem it never went away is the a computer that this is attached too that could be bad or is there a Diagnostic test I can put the unit into this is getting fustrating and its getting cloder out now too, I will have to tape up the drivers vents and use only the pass vents.  P.S. if I shut the car off and back on I get heat from the drivers side but it goes away after a minute or so.

Thanks again

BOB

Answer
I do apologize for not being much of a help last time Bob. I did a bit of research into the problem at the garage and this is what the team and I have come up with....

Keeping the new heater box or returning it would be up to you, since this problem seems to not be within that unit. >>BUT...on the climate control, if you push OFF and WARM at the same time for about 2-3 seconds.. it should go into trouble shoot mode and give you an error code .. it will REALLY display a code IF there is something wrong.. if it displays 00 then it does not detect anything OR you have no problems there. This doesn't ALWAYS work so smoothly though.

Then a good friend of mine spoke up and told me about a problem he had the other day. The symptoms were IDENTICAL to yours, cold on one side warm on the other etc... He found out that it wasn't the temperature that was screwing up, but it was the pass/driver directional motor. This is the motor that directs warm air to point A and cool to point B etc... This motor was not opening all the way on the driver's side and the driver was getting cold air only. The ONLY fix for this was to get a new climate control directional module and replace it. surprisingly it was very cheap, like $50 all together I believe.

So that's the best we could muster up to this point, I'm going to get into the GM library at work tomorrow to do a bit of follow up research for you. I'll see if there's another possible reason, but for now, that module may be the ticket to a warm car for these colder mornings!
