Question -
I have a 2001 Buick LaSabre which is front wheel drive.  What is the difference between front wheel drive and rear wheel drive?
Answer -
On a front wheel drive car, the front wheels are the driving wheels and on a rear wheel drive car, the rear wheels are the driving wheels.
I should have been more explicit in my question.  I really wanted to know if on a front wheel drive vehicle the tires need balancing more often or alignment needs to be checked more often than rear wheel? Is there any advantage to a front wheel drive versus a rear wheel drive?

Answer
You should rotate the tires every 6000 miles or at every other oil change. The tires should be balanced at least once a year and the alignment should be checked at least once a year.
There are alot of advantages to a FWD over a RWD car. FWD cars handle better and go alot better in the snow and ice. There are less parts on a FWD because the transaxle incorporates the transmission, driveshaft, and rear differential into one unit rather than three separate ones like on a RWD. Less parts mean less weight and less weight means better fuel economy. I, myself, will never go back to a RWD car.
Also the Lesabre that you have is probably the most dependable car that GM is building right now. I'm sure that you will be very happy with it.
