Buick/Olds: 96 Olds Cutlass V6, olds cutlass, pwer

Question
Harold,
I was wondering if you could help me with a fan problem. My olds has a v6 engine and has two fans behind the radiator. The car is in great shape and not a thing wrong with it except for this. The passenger side one doesn't want to work now. When I'm stopped at a light or idling, the car temp starts to rise. I checked the power to the fan and it isn't getting any. I changed fan relays and still nothing so I pulled the fan out and it works, just to make sure. I switched the relays around between the two fans and still nothing. I checked all fuses, nada, nothing again. There seems to be power to the relay spot, but nothing to the fan. Is there something I'm missing? Maybe a fusible link to the fan itself? If there is no pwer to the relay, is that a different problem or one in the same. I can't remember if it had power to the relay or not. Sorry, but in any case, can you help me to find the problem to this with the info I provided or do you need more? I'm pretty sure it had power to the relay, but none after. I'm not good with electrical at all, so admitting it is the first step. What ideas can you give me to solve this mystery and not have the car overheat someday because it has been very hot lately. Hope you can help. Thanks for your time, I appreciate it.

Answer
Ok, first of all, every relay should have power at 2 of the terminals. One of the other terminals is a ground and the other terminal is a switched ground. Its the one that turns the relay on either by a temp switch, or the computer.
Make sure that you have the 2 power and one ground first. Then, with a test light connected to 12v(positive battery terminal) check to see if you get a ground on the 4th terminal when the other fan turns on.
Let me know what you come up with and I will try to help you further.
