Land Rover Repair: Transmission, 2005 range rover, range rover

I have a 2005 Range Rover HSE. I had a message of "Trans failsafe program" on the message board. It happened twice and went away. My dealer said don't worry about it unless the message becomes permanent. Well one night the car would not get out of 3rd and the RPM at 70mph was at 35000. I took the car in and they cleared the message but they can't find a fault after driving it for 1 week. What can the problem be? According to the dealer, it's now working OK and I need to pick it up. Thanks for the help. O6olpine of my neighbor's has the same car, same year and she has the same problem. And the dealer can't give us an answer.

There is no way to know why that light came on other than to read the codes from the vehicle.  There are times when the car has a failure and a code does not get stored; it sounds like that's what happenened in your case.  Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is drive it till a code is stored, which is probably what the dealer told you.  I wish there were a better answer but there's not.
