Buick/Olds: buick regal-buick century, buick regals, buick pontiac

Question
Does the 1998 Buick Century and the 1998 Buick regal share many of the same components?
I am particulary interested in the steering  system. I had a problem with the steering in my 1998 century (total loss of power assist when making left turn)  and have learned that GM is recalling buick regals for exactly the same problem I experienced with my century

Answer
The only difference between the Century and the Regal is the interior. Seats, console, etc.
I am not aware of any recalls on the steering systems in Regals and I work in a Buick, Pontiac, and GMC dealer. There is a recall on many Pontiacs for a bad bearing in the steering rack. Most recalls are only on a specific car from a specific plant and only during a certain run of production. For example: a faulty switch is installed in all Lesabres built in the Cleveland plant between June 3rd and July 23rd. The VIN numbers start with 1000001 and end with 1000301.
So you can see that there would only be 300 cars being recalled.
Now back to your question. There are a couple of different steering options available on regals and centuries. There are the base steering, and magnasteer system. If you have any questions about a particular recall or a possible recall on your car, call your local Buick dealer and they will be able to answer anything you need. If they do recall your car you should be able to get reinbursed for the repairs you did if it is what the recall is for.
Hope this helps. If not or you have more questions, feel free to ask.
