Buick/Olds: Buick skylark 1983, buick skylark 1983, buick skylark

Question
My son has a 1983 buick skylark that turns over sometimes and wont start then after a jump it starts and maybe for several times more it will start without a jump ...seems after it sits for a couple of hours though it will not start again without a jump. I know the battery is new .. seems the problem started since we have had all the rain...wondering if the dampness is effecting something. I know on my old car when it was damp the coil wouldnt spark and so my car wouldnt start...any suggestions.

Answer
Yes the rain could be effecting it. I would suggest replacing the sparkplug wires first. The reason is that when you are cranking an engine, most of the battery voltage is going to the starter and the ignition voltage is weak. If the plug wires are bad, this takes away more needed voltage from the spark plugs. Now by jump starting the car you are increasing the availiable voltage and giving it enough to start.  I dont know what engine you have so I cant be very specific, but on a 1983 it could also be the coil.
Hope this helps.
