I can see in the electrical diagram for the trunk light that there is a switch involved.  The light comes on when the trunk lid is open and it goes off when it is closed (though it seems to be causing a flicker and or is not set to detect the fully open lid).  So there is a switch, and it appears in the electrical diagram.  yet I cannot find it.  It would seem to be related to the movement of the trunk lid but a single wire goes from near the hood latch where the light bulb is located, along the lid to the hinge and then back to the fender where there is a connection block for several of the tail lights to come together in a ground block that is fastened to a support.  The connection at the ground block is clearly a connector only.  There are no other splices in this line along its length with the exception that the bulb wire meets a connector just a few inches from its base.  Nothing special there either.  That would seem to leave the bulb socket itself (which I have not removed).  Is it possible that there is a mercury switch or some other type of device 'detecting' an open trunk lid?  Where is the switch?  I suspect it is shorting and blowing my interior lights fuse.

Sorry,
1982 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham 6 door executive Limo.  I find the service docs and drawings match the same year Fleetwood / Brougham.  Thank you for your consideration.
