Cadillac: Service engine light and transmission, service engine soon light, engine stall

Tom,

Have a 1995 Eldorado with 96,000 miles. Always well maintained.

All of a sudden, this past week, the "service engine soon" light came on the the rpm's surged from 2,000 rpm to 4,000 rpm. Seems like it is stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear. Thought it was the fuel filter cause my wife had driven the car down to a gallon or two left in the tank.

Took it to a service center..they did a scan.

Codes: P0029 Transaxle Shift B Solenoid Problem
      P0086 Undefined gear ratio
      P0094 Transaxle shift A Solenoid Problem
      P0095 Engine Stall detected.

Engine running rough has two cylinders not firing.

Does it sound like the transmission is shot or is there a less expensive repair available?  What do you think?

p.s. I have been driving it and the ride is still smooth but I can't comfortably get beyond 50 mph.
