Cadillac: Cadillac Sedan Deville engine problems, electronic control modules, cadillac sedan deville

Question
I have a 91 Cadillac Sedan Deville. At outside air temperatures above 65 Degrees the engineen will start to shut down.  Your doing 70 MPH and you start to lose power.  Depressing the Accelerator just adds to the problem.  The car will continue to lose power for 4 or 5 miles and then shut down.  Let her sit for 10 minutes and she is ready to go again for another 10 miles and then the shut down process starts over.  The Cooler the Outside temp.,  The better she runs. She is setting code E44. I have replaced the Electronic control modules in the Distributor, which did not help. I have taken the gas cap off which did not help. When I"m  checking under the hood and its 90 Degrees outside I don't hear the fans running, should they be?

Answer
The E$$ indicates a LEAN FUEL MIXTURE in the exhaust and by your description I would have to say that this indicates that you have an intermittent faulty fuel pump in the fuel tank. A very common problem.

No the fans will not come ON until the engine coolant temp reaches 220 degrees.
