Cadillac: 1995 Seville SLS alternator?, seville sls, jeff gossett

Question
I have a 1995 Seville SLS with 107,000 miles.  I was recently driving down the interstate and I had a "Battery Low Voltage" instruction show up on my information display.  Within a few minutes my entire car lost power and everything shut off.  I was stranded.  I got a ride to an Autozone and bought a new battery (the old one was not that old) and installed it and it started up fine and has been driving well for the past 4 days.  Could the alternator be bad in it?  Is there a way I can test it without removing it from the car?  One last question.  How can you even get to the alternator to replace it?  Can you do it from the top of the car or do you have to go under the car to replace the alternator.  If from the top, what do you have to remove?  It looks like you would have to remove the radiator to get the alternator out.

Sincerely,

Jeff Gossett

PS:
I tried posting this on the Cadillac forum to help out other people, but I can't see how to do that.

Answer
They are a pain in the butt to get out. Some of my people say that removing it from the bottom is easier and some say that removing the power steering pump and removing the alternator from the top is easier.

You can have autozone test your alternator usually for free if you drive the vehicle into them.
