Cadillac: 98 Catera Check Engine Light, cadillac catera, 98 cadillac catera

Question
I have a 98 Cadillac Catera with approx 44,000 miles and have only had a single problem in 3 years... I keep up on maintence.. Have oil changed every 3,000.. I currently noticed my check engine light came on.. also noticed car was running Rougher than normally... I added some Fuel Injector cleaner.  This worked.. it ran better but only lasted one week.. a week later the same situation.. I added another bottle Of Injector, fuel system cleaner.. this also worked for about 3 days before the rought Idle and the Check engine light came back on... Is there a prob with my fuel system.. that could be fixed by me...? or are these the tell tail signs of a much greater problem? I am mechanically inclined to a certain degree. I am on a very limited budget..
and would like to try to fix this issue myself... Any help would Be GREATLY appreciated...
Thank You in Advance,
Jason

Answer
If you keep adding fuel system cleaner and the vehicle runs better this may be a sign of a significant amount of water that is in the fuel tank.

Try using a different gas station as the one your using may have a leak in his under ground tanks and water is getting into his tanks.

Keep adding this fuel additive or try what is called DRY GAS for several applications as these products break up the water molecules and allow them to pass thru the fuel filters and to be burned and expelled thru the engine and out the exhaust.

As to the CHECK ENGINE light illuminating on the dash, You can usualy get a larger auto parts store such as autozone or the like to scan your computer and tell you the FAULT CODE and it's MEANING that is causing the CHECK ENGINE light to illuminate.

once you have this CODE information, Let me know what it is so we can proceed to diagnose your problem.
