Cadillac: engine shuts down, serial data line, cadillac seville

Question
What would cause the engine to suddenly stop, either while idleling or in motion? After a few seconds it will start again as if there is no problem. It has done this several times. After some research I was able to retrive two fault codes from the OBD-11 system. One fault was a U1255 which states "Class 2 communication malfunction (serial data line malfunction). I have no idea what that means.  However, the other fault code was B1805 which simply states: "Ignition Switch Problem". Can you tell me if changing the ignition switch will solve my problem or is there another problem because of the U1255 fault code? I have never seen a light or message on the driver information center (DIC). Check engine light has never illuminated. My car is a 1999 Cadillac Seville with 55000 miles. I purchased it new and it has never been in the garage for any repairs other than a minor electrical problem four years ago.

Answer
I would NOT suggest that you go replacing parts on a MAYBE THIS WILL FIX IT solution.

The U1255 means that the communication link between the computers has a problem. The cause could be any number of things from a computer(s) internal fault to a faulty data transfer wire to a faulty ignition switch.

You need to have a professional technician who has the proper equipment perform the diagnostics BEFORE you do ANYTHING.

NEVER EVER replace ANY part on a computerized vehicle unless you are POSITIVE that what you are replacing is the EXACT FAULTY component as you acn damage the various electronics of the vehicle and cause more problems than the ONE that you have now.
