Motorcycle Repair: Bike has been sitting, honda magna, rust check

Question
I'm thinking of buying a 99 Honda Magna from a friend. This motorcycle has 150 miles on it and was garage kept, but hasn't moved in 4 years. What do I need to do to get this bike on the road again? I'm mechanically handy, but don't know if I should tackle this on my own. I'm thinking it would it be easier to just take it to a local dealer, but don't want to pay through the nose for service.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Mike,

The Magna's carburetors may have varnished during the storage. If so, they'll need thoroughly cleaned.

Check the fuel tanks for evidence of rust.

Check airbox for evidence of nests (true).

Check tires and other rubber for evidence of dry-rotting.

Change oil and filter and final drive oil.
