Cadillac: Air Conditioner Compressor Pulleys, clutch assembly, feeler gage

Question
I want to replace the compressor from my 1992 Cadillac Deville with one I took off of a 1988 Oldsmobile Regency.  The compressors appear to be the same except for the pulleys. How do I remove and replace the pulleys?

Answer
Removal of the pulleys require special tools of which are available at most major auto parts stores such as Autozone, Napa and Checkers.

The 2 tools consist of a holding tool that has a handle on it that that you hold in the palm of your hand and the other end looks similar to a triangle with 3 raised studs so as to be able to hold the A/C clutch assembly from moving when you use the other special tool that looks like a spark plug socket with threads on one end and has a smaller longer bolt inside of it that also has threads on it as well and the opposite end has a place to turn it with approximately a 7/16th or 1/2 inch wrench. Also included with the removal and installer tool is a bearing that fits on the tool so as when your are pressing the clutch and hub assembly ON and OFF you won't damage the clutch and hub.
This is your REMOVAL AND INSTALLER TOOL for pressing the pulley and hub OFF and ON.

Just ask any of the counter people and they will give you the 2 tools, Cost approx $35.00 for BOTH.

BEFORE you start using the removal and installer tool there is a 14mm NUT in the center of the clutch assembly that you MUST remove using a 14mm deep well socket.

Also make sure that you measure the AIR GAP of which is the spacing of the clutch from the hub. Use a feeler gage to measure it and make sure when you reassemble it you set it EXACTLY the same BEFORE you reinstall the 14mm nut.
