Cadillac: 91 eldorado, rubber hoses, brake caliper

Question
Replaced hoses,brakelines,4 calipers,4 rotors with no pressure at left rear. Able to bleed left rear line within 2 feet of proportioner valve.able to bleed right even tho out of order  according to book.Could that valve be the problem? Is it serviceable? replaced? dealer item only? Approximate price? are the prop valves the two alum blocks near left rear axle? Have three books and none mention it!!

Answer
In 25 yaers as a tech I have only seen a handful of faulty proportioning valves, So I doubt that yours is faulty.

The proportioning valve is usually located bolted to the frame below the master cylinder.

What you are looking at is most likely JUNCTION BLOCKS for the brake lines.

Perform this operation.

1. make sure the master cylinder if full of brake fluid.

2. Leave the master cylinder cover lid loose or slightly raised so as to allow normal atmospheric air pressure to be maintained on the brake fluid on the fluid within the master cylinder.

3. Loosen both rear brake lines (rubber hoses) where they bolt to the brake caliper.

4. Leave both lines in step 3 remain loosened for about 15 to 30 minutes and within this time frame you should see brake fluid dripping from the hoses at the calipers.

5. If you see only one dripping, Go ahead and tighten it and wait for the other to start dripping and then tighten it also.

6. Make sure that you monitor the brake fluid in the master cylinder as you don't want it to get empty thus allowing more air into the brake system.

If you have the ability to e-mail pictures lease do so to me at:

as to the identification of the two aluminum blocks within your question.

Yes the prop valve is replaceable. No it is not serviceable. as to availability, I have not purchased one in 10 or more years, So I do not know where you could obtain one. Most definately a dealer might have or have to order one.

QUESTION: Why did you replace all of the brake parts ?.
