Cadillac: HEATER PROBLEM, heater hoses, rear wheel drive

Question
MY DAD HAS A 1996 CAD.FLEETWOOD, 5.7 L, REAR WHEEL DRIVE.  THEY HAVE NOT PUBLISHED THE REPAIR MANUALS FOR THIS YEAR MODEL YET. HE RECENTLY REPLACED THE WATER PUMP AND WHEN HE DID, THE HEATER QUIT WORKING.  DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM OR ANY SUGGESTIONS?  MY OTHER QUESTION.   I OWN A 1990 SEDAN DEVILLE, 4.5L, MY HEATER CORE WENT OUT A WHILE BACK.  WE ARE GOING TO TRY TO REPLACE IT OURSELVES. IS IT VERY SIMPLE TO GET TO? IS IT UNDER THE DASH FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR OR IS IT UNDER THE HOOD,BEHIND THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT AND AGAINST THE FIREWALL?  I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS REALLY GOING TO BE A BUGGAR TO GET TO AND THAT IT MIGHT BE BEST TO LET A PROFESSIONAL DO IT?  THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

Answer
As for the heater stopping working after a pump change, I've never heard of such a problem.  Usually the heater hoses are connected on other parts of the engine and on other cars a hose is attached directly to the water pump.  If it is the latter, it might have been that the pump had some cover inside or something possibly, but it is doubtful.
As long as everything was hooked up the same way it should work.  Some more extensive investigation should be done.

AS for the heater core, it differs on a lot of cars and since it's something that doesn't ususally go bad on cars the only one I have experience changing was on my Fiero, which was slightly a hassle but doable.
Basically, you just want to remove the hoses on the firewall to the heater core.  Then from inside you can usually remove a panel closes to the passenger door, and that is where the heater is, and that is usually how you access it from there, it will just be a matter of seeing how it is attached and removing it.  You can always try doing it yourself, it it is too difficult put it back together and take it to someone.

Hope this helps.
