Chevrolet: 1969 c10, gm vehicles, ford ranger

Question
Hello Ray, I own a 1969 Chev. c10, CST and its 95% restored. Is there a restoration reference book available besides the one provided by GM that can give me more detail on this project. Such as the canvas jack bag, that shows in the picture, hold the wheel stud wrench and jack handle. My jack handle is too long to fit upright behind the door jam as indicated in the diagram. Also, there is no info on the trans. downshift switch, I think called the detent switch. Can you help? Thanks

Answer
Hello Art,

First, I want to compliment your truck; I believe it to be one of the best, most reliable trucks ever made. And it really hauls!
To answer your question best, I must make a reference to another truck that's very similar to yours. It kills me to say the word, but the...*wince*...FORD Ranger has an almost identical jack assembly to your Chevy. It, too, stows away behind the door jam. You may want to try using the Ranger's jack assembly in place of your Chevy's; it probably will fit a little better.
If not, or you just don't want to use rival parts(like me), then you might just want to buy any old jack assembly smaller than the one you're using, or modify the one you have by trimming it down a little.
Now, about your Detent Switch. It is located on the tranny itself. These transmissions were used mainly for C10's, but the Detent Switch is not unlike most others found on other GM vehicles. If you're looking for a replacement, finding one isn't hard.

Hope this helps you!
