Chevrolet: power steering pump, power steering pump, chevy dealer

I have a 454 cu. in. engine installed in a 1987 alumalite motor home. The power steering pump was replaced. drove it 150 mi. belt came off. Chevy dealer re-installed it. Drove another 150 mi., steering was tight on turns and belt squealed. Mechanic flushed lines and replaced filter and re-installed belt. Drove another 150 mi. and same problem. need help please. Thank you

   Unfortunately, it sounds to me like you have gotten a bad pump. Sometimes it happens that new or remanufactured parts are just bad from the factory. The tight steering in corners and the throwing the belt are good indicators. It seems that when the pump gets up to temp, it doesn't work right, which indicates to me an internal problem. I would have them re-install a new pump. The shop where you had it done can get the pump warranted from the place they bought it, as well as file a labor claim with the company to get paid for the removal and re-installation, so it should be done at no cost to you. Depending on the shop, sometimes you have to kind of fight for this service, but if it is a reputable shop, they should do it with no fuss. Good Luck!
