Chevrolet: chevy hp 327 engine id application, 327 chevy, powerglide trans

Question
QUESTION: I have a 327 chevy, cast #3782870, cast nov 64, with pad #F1110S, It is in a 64 vette, powerglide trans,
Is it the correct engine for this car?
Thanks, in Advance
Nelson

ANSWER: Nelson,
Cast # 3782870 does indeed belong in a 1964 corvette. It was the only number used that year. There were 22,229 built with that casting number. I can tell you with a fair amount of surity that the engine was built in June, More than likely in Saginaw, then shipped to Flint for machining and assembly. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

QUESTION: Thank you vedry much for the info re: the engine casting number, but I have had a couple fellow vette guys tell me that the pad # F1110S is not correct to the vette itself,
they think that it should be for a impala, or something.
I know for sure that everything on this engine has been on it for the last 35 years that I have owned it, except the carb.. it was replaced years ago
Again, Thanks in advance,
Nelson

Answer
Nelson,
As to the pad number, I am still doing some digging on that, I have a few other references to check yet, so I will continue to dig into it, I'm interested in finding out myself. Based on your dates, the car was really only not in your hands for the first eight years of it's existence, and I Don't really see anyone replacing that engine unless they shrapneled it. I'll get back to you when I know for sure.
