Chevrolet: transmission, chevrolet monte carlo, transmission clutches

I don't know if this is your area of expertise but I'll ask this dumb question anyway.I have a 1985 chevrolet monte carlo with a turbo 350 transmission. I brought the car in because when it shifts into first gear, it chatters. It is an automatic. The transmission shop said that my transmission clutches were going and needed to be replaced. They wanted $600 to do it. I heard from someone that if I poured brake fluid into the transmission that it will stop the chattering. Is this true, if so how much brake fluid do I pour in? It may be a dumb question but I just thought I'd ask. Thanks.

The brake fluid trick only work if your problem is caused by a stiff seal in the tranny. The brake fluid will help soften the seal so that it seals better. You should only add about a shot glass full of brake fluid. This is an oldtimers patch job and it will not "fix" the tranny, just help it work for a little while longer.
Sorry but this will not help your transmission. It is chattering because the cluth plates are worn out. There is to much space in between the plates because the linning is worn off.
