Chevrolet: chevy 350 sm block timing, chevy 350, harmonic balance

Question
After replacing some top end parts ie;dist. valvesprings pushrods and some others. I have the engine running but timining is a little off. This situation is different from the last question there isn't a sticker to go by to set the timing back to.

Answer
Barry-
ok the harmonic balance has a line on it and the oil pan has a plate with some lines on it. the trimming should be around 6-8-or even 10  if the distributor is not it it right that that could be the condition , first pop the no # 1 plug and it should pop at t.d.c. look to see if it is close to t.d.c. if so move it by hand or push the fan belt so the mark is on t.d.c. than take off the dist. cap- now the rotor should be pointing at or on the no#1 plug spot on the cap- if not than the trimming is off or the dist. is in by a tooth off. OK >>
