Chevrolet: ac bearing, j c whitney, ac compressor

Question
i have a 94 z28 that runs great recently the ac compressor started making an annoying squeeking noise. i think its the a c clutch bearing(it started when i turned on the a c)
i work on cars for a living(motors and body work)if it is the a c clutch bearing how hard is that to replace?

Answer
Chris;
Hi- first off if the bearing is bad, than the clutch is probably on its way out too. I would have the clutch & bearing all pulled off with a puller than have a new clutch & Bearing pressed back on to the shaft as long as the shaft is not all striped or chewed up.if chewed up  than you will have to go for the whole unit , a re-built one will save you a bit of cash$$.as long as you have the proper tools it is not too hard, do not get any of the air/ gas from in the a/c  to  get in your eyes you will go blind for good. so check out some prices on the web. try ( J.C.Whitney.com) they have good prices, or summett raceing .com  o k
