Chevrolet: Correct timing, nissan 280 zx, chevy impala

Question
My son bought a 1983 Nissan 280 zx with a worked up 1973 350 Chevy Impala.( 355 ) bored.30 over that brings it to 345 HP with oversized cam. The set up when received was with the vacume advance disconected.

We can't find the proper timing for this engine and should the vacume advance be hooked up to get max performance??

Thaning you in advance..

Answer
SAm;
Hea- well  if the dist has a vacume on it than yes it should be hooked up but if not than  if the choke has no vacume hook up or the carb secondarys have a vacume for them  to hook them up. other wise plug. it. for now. and the cam is it a solid or a hyd. this is important !. try the timeimng at * adv. , with the cam you might have to do it by ear or  keep trying it till you get it at the best spot.   do you have a alum. intake and headers. you might have a bit more horse if you have headers and a alum intake, and the 202 large heads.
