Buick/Olds: Buick Antifreeze, buick park avenue, gm product

Question
Hello.  Good to be able to get some information from you.  I have a 96 Buick Park Avenue.  It's running fine with no problems.  However I notice that the manual is very emphatic about the antifreeze.  It essentially says not to use any generic product but to use only the GM.  The antifreeze that is in it now is pink like "pink lemonaide".  So my question is:- Will adding regular antifreeze be destructive to any part of the cooling system?  I suspect that the GM product is much more expensive than the stuff sold in automotive supply stores all over the country.  So I wonder if it would really be worth buying.  I wonder what's different about it besides the color...  Thanks  Jim

The GM antifreeze is more expensive and the only tangeable differences are 1 the color and 2 the life of the product. The coolant in your car now that is pink was originally a bit more orange but changes over time, not to worry, there's nothing wrong with it. This pink stuff is "Dexcool" whick is just a more expensive, longer lasting coolant. You are able to introduce Prestone or Wal-Mart brand or whatever you like into the system. It will all work fine and will NOT hurt your system, I promise.

I hope your system isn't leaking and that's why you need to add coolant. Let me know if you have more problems.
