Chevrolet: 350 chevy, 350 chevy, push rod

Question
All hyd 350, how do you adjust the valves on a non running engine all new...........thank you james

Answer

James - first oil up the lifters good so they are pumped up with oil , than you will tap the motor till you see some of the valves go all the way up to the top . you can go to the library and in the tech books will have the proper way so you can do a few at one time but  if you tap the key till you see the push rod go all the way up and the valve  go  a bit of the way down you will loosen the arm till it is loose enough to see a small gap between the valve and rock/arm now snug it down till it touches than go 1/2 way more down on it. do this with each one, than after you get it running as it might clack a bit , take each valve adj. one at a time and turn it loose till it clacks (with it running)than turn it back in till it just stops clacking than go 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn more- NO more than that and it might seam to almost stall at each valve adj. so do it slow.  if it does stall than just go a bit less like 1/2 in ok...and make shure you change the oil and filter after 900 miles or so and do not rev it over 4000 rpms or go over 55 / 60 mph.  for the first 1000  break in miles  or you might be sorry .. ok ....>>,
