Chrysler Repair: 2000jeepcherokee.uk.(again), automatic clutch, torque converter

Question
Thanks 4 tip on last problem(immobiliser activated after jump start)rechecked fuses all ok.problem now is engine looks like it is trying to escape from vehicle, more movement than usual(rocking)and when i stop at junction etc vehicle jerks when at stop and idle is errattic.also recently had a tapping/knocking sound but checked oil and its ok.I think it could be the automatic clutch perhaps or could it be a misfiring pot?will check ignition output first!

Answer
Hi Francis,
You are welcome. You might in addition to checking ignition output, look at the possibility of a worn engine mount that allows for too much movement, and as for the jerking when coming to a stop, that might be the torque converter lock-up clutch failing to release soon enough sort of like not putting in the clutch with a stick shift car when stopping. There would be a fault code for that in the engine controller which you may be able to get by using the ignition key:'on-off-on-off-on and leave on' doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. The watch the odometer window to see if the
'kilomage' reading changes to show a four-digit number prefixed by a P. A P0743 would be the code for that problem. Another possible cause of rough idle is a slightly ajar egr valve. Check the stem of that if accessible to be sure that it moves freely. If not, spray some lubricant on it where it enters the valve body.
Best wishes,
Roland
