Chevrolet: oil guage, chevy express, piece of dirt

Question
I have a 2001 chevy express van 2500, approx. 88000 miles on it. Just this morning I noticed that my oil guage moved up to 80psi and stays there for awhile, then go's down to nothing for a second then bounces back and forth for a while. Then back up to 80 and stays there. Oil level is fine. I don't hear any lifter or any noises like it's not pumping oil. Could this just be a defective guage? Please let me know asap what you think before I take it in for service.   Thanks,  Kieth

If you do not hear any noise when the gauge goes down to 0  than it might be the gauge or sending unit or a piece of dirt in the sending unit . if you do hear a lot of ticking i would turn it off and have it towed  to a shop. but if no noise than it should be ok but i would keep a eye on it.
