I know this is difficult and perhaps impossible for you to answer but perhaps you can venture a guess. I have a '98 Malibu with 2 year old brakes. I just started hearing a "squealing" sound not while braking but just after braking and start moving again. Don't know where it is coming from although it sound from the engine compartment.
Any clues of what it might be?
Thanks,
Lisa

HI LISA
       When you hear a noise like that it could be comming
from any place , but it could be your  fan/drive belt  but it sounds like it could be the brake  sensors rubbing and you might need new brakes soon , I think you should have them looked at, this way if you do need brakes thay can be fixed and also you can prevent any damage that you could have by the rotors getting cut buy the bad brakes. ok

Thanks for the help - just one question, to check the brakes, do I need remove the tires to see if brake pads are worn? I am assuming that this is needed. I just hate to pay someone to check the brakes by removing the tires and find out it is something else since everytime I take the car for something, if I don't have the work done there then they charge me for the time they have spent to check the items.
Thanks again.

Answer
HI Lisa;
        OK first off I do not know where you have been going but you should not have to put any money out just to have it looked at , that is not a very professional shop that you have been going to , as far as the brakes you should be able to go to a brake shop like mavis or bear and they look the brakes over for free , and ask them if it cost anything prior to looking.They will look it over tell you what you might or do need than you take it from there . OK
