Chevrolet: 91 Cavalier defrost problem, volt outlet, defrosters

Question
Do you have any idea how to fix a defrost problem on a 91 cavalier?  The fan's working fine. The rotary switch in the control panel won't switch to defrost no matter what position its put in. What should I do? Trouble shoot. Very weak air coming out of all vents.

Answer
Hi Candace;
           OK well it sounds as if the switch itself is broken, so I would try to close all of the vents that you can if they have the on / off switch and put the air on the hot setting and the setting on the defrost  see if that will help . Also did you look at the fuses to see if there are any blown ? if you try all of the above and still no good you will have to get a new switch.You can look at ( JC WHITNEY.com )for the part it should not cost that much. Also they do sell a plug in type heater-defroster that you plug in the cig. lighter or the 12 volt outlet and it blows out hot air on the window and they run at around $ 25.00  this would be the easy way and fastest way . Than you can have the switch replaced when ever you wish. I looked at E-bay for 12 volt auto defrosters and they too sell them , so you should have no trouble locateing one ..OK
