Chevrolet: 88 Celebrity quits, hottest day of the year, low oil pressure

Question
Hi Keith, thanks for taking a look at this.
I am the first and only owner of an 88 Celebrity with the 2.8 V6, auto trans, about 150K miles. July of '04, during the hottest day of the year, it quit on my way to work. Restarted twice, then quit for good. Turns, but won't start. I ended up getting a tow from a co-worker. At night, when the engine was cold, it started right up. I made it home but the same problem persisted- it would kill when it got hot. The same problem exists a year later, even though I have done the following: replaced plugs & wires, replaced fuel filter, replaced ignition module, replaced the crank position sensor (it fell in the engine and I had to drop the pan to get it out), tried something called Thermagasket Treatment (after I found low oil pressure could shut down the fuel pump and maybe I had a leaky head gasket), found the fan wasn't turning on- the fuse had come loose, replaced thermostat & radiator cap, replaced coolant temp sensor, replaced fuel pump, replaced oxygen sensor, took apart exhaust system (poss. defective or clogged Cat), checked 12v & grounding thru ECM to injectors, pulled injectors & checked, replaced ignition coils, dumped Restore in the crankcase, finally swapping out the ECM. Nothing has worked, it still kills when it gets hot, usually during acceleration. I have sprayed ether in the throttle body after it kills and it tries to start, so it would seem there is a fuel loss. Not so, normal fuel pressure at the Schrader valve. Electrical problem at the injectors? No, 12v and current flowing after it kills too. "Spider" cable to injectors is good. Bundle from the spider cable to the ECM looks OK. It will start again only when it is ice cold. The Service Engine Soon light does not nor has it ever come on, but it is working. I'm officially out of ideas. Sorry for being so long winded, and thanks again for reading. Jeff

Answer
Hi Jeff, after you replaced all of them parts, it still sounds like an ignition problem to me. Maybe you replaced the crank sonsor or ignition module with a defective one. I would have them tested to make sure one or the other is not defective. Let me know what you find. Regards, Keith.
