Chevrolet: 1987 Trans Am Power Steering Belt, v belts, serp belt

Question
I have an '87 trans am, 5.0 4bbl, and I am trying to replace the belts.  It has a serp belt and v belts?  New to working on cars so forgive me if some of my terminology is incorrect. All of the belts were a breeze until we got to the one closest to the engine.  We loosened the two bolts so that it should slide but it will not.  We loosened the one that it should rotate on.  Do we have to remove the pully to get the belt off?  What are we missing?  We have used a bar and a mallet to try and move it but it won't budge.  I would really appreciate any help.  I am going to the St. Ignace car show this weekend and want to have all new belts for a safe trip up north.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Adam, you dont have to remove the pully to remove the belt. Try taking all the bolts out so the pump will come off this should free up the belt so you can remove it. It sounds like someone put a belt on there that was too short and thats why you cant move it. When you replace it, get the parts store to look it up for you , this should be the right belt. If you still cant get it off just cut it, your going to replace it anyway. I hope this helps you, if you need more in just let me know. Regards, Keith.
