Hyundai Repair: AC, hyundai elantra, high pressure hose

Question
2002 Hyundai Elantra  The ac is cold for about 5 minutes then it feels like the regular vent air. The compressor works in the beginning but as soon as it gets hot it stops turning and won't come back on until you let it cool by turning the car off and waiting awhile.  Someone suggested that it might be the thermostatic switch located in the evaporator.  If this is so, where is the evaporator located?  If not, what could it be?

Answer
The evaporator is located behind the passenger side of the dash.

The problem could also be an incorrect amount of refrigerant in the system, the triple switch in the high pressure hose going from the evaporator to the condensor, or the engine running too hot.
