Chevrolet: oil filter leak, j c whitney, outer diameter

Question
Hi Roger
I have a 68 Chev with a 327 large journal crank engine.  The problem is with the oil filter.  The rubber ring on every filter I can find for a small block Chev seems to barely cover the opening where the filter screws on.  In other words, while there is a flat area probably 3/8" wide around the outer diameter of the filter opening for the rubber ring to make contact, the ring is on the inside edge of that so it seems to be partly trying to seal against the chamfered edge on the inner side of the mating surface.  Yet there is a 1/8" gap between the outside edge of the filter and the block.  Because the contact area is so small, the rubber seal keeps getting pushed out of place by the oil pressure and the oil squirts out.  I have checked the bypass and it operates smoothly, and the pressure never reads over 60-70 lbs, even when cold.

Roy ,  well you got good oil pressure for a leak any ways , they should make some type of a adaptor for that engine or the proper oil filter, try    J.C.Whitney.com  and tell them that roger warrington told you to use them,as if any body has what you need it is them ok. a oil filter first and if not try the spin on adaptor. Are you shure that it did not have the old type filter that you have to remove and put a filter in it ?? , look in jc whitney as I just did and they have a lot of stuff OK.
