Chevrolet: Chevi Cavalier 93, chevy cavalier, vacuum switch

Question
We have a 93 Chevy Cavalier that will start easy when cooled down, but once warm it will stall out.  At this time it will start, but I am unable to put into gear.  This is a automatic.  I have to let it cool down at which time it will go into gear, but once warm again it stalls.  We have replaced the speed censor, but it didn't help.  We were told it could be a solenoid torque converter.  If so, where is this part located, so I can replace it.

Please help.

Thank you.

Kathy

Answer
hi cathy, the lock up torque is inside the transmission and is controlled by a vacuum switch. usually it is the switch that causes the problem. to check the switch you can unplug it from the transmission. then if the problem is gone then the switch is the problem. the plug is located on the front of the transmission close to where the engine and transmission meet together its not hard to see. when you find it just unplug it. happy to be of help,if you need more info let me know. thanks     keith
