Dodge: Hello , First of all excuse..., grand caravan sport, dodge grand caravan sport

Question
Hello ,

First of all excuse my poor english, I'll try my best to explain the problem.

I own Dodge Grand Caravan Sport (2001)
The problem exist only when the engine is cold(at the morning or after 3 or more hours of parking) and not every morning. when I am turning the key the statrer make a 'click' sound and didn't start. CD player, lights, everything is working. Just after waiting 5-10 seconds with key in ON position I can start the car. sometime it takes 3-4 attempts. Again I turn the engine off it starts Ok next time. That why I want to understand the problem by myself before take the car to mechanic (I cannot reproduce the problem If I'll drive to them). The batery is almost new (less then a year), no other visible problems, no recent repairs.

Thank you,

Michael

Answer
Michael, I can only imagine the frustration. First, check to see if there is a tight connection from the terminals to the top posts (side?). Then make sure the wires (-) and (+) and tight on the terminals. Then check the bat. wire on the starter. Make sure they're all tight. This is usually the problem. It seems a little pre-mature for the starter to be going, but it wouldn't surprise me. You can have the starting, charging, and battery tests done @ Advanced Discount Auto for free if you don't want to purchase the tools. I think this will do it. Let me know if it works.
