can you tell me how to check the tramission fluid on my 1995 dodge dakota

i know truck has to be running but does the tramission has to be in neutral or park and what is the correct temp to check tramission fluid

Thanks

Answer
Mark,
There is a dipstick on the left side of the engine close to the firewall, pull the dipstick out holding the dipstick toward the ground(don't tilt it back or the fluid will run and give you a bad reading. It should say on the bottom of the dipstick if the transmission should be in neutral. The transmission needs to be warm.Drive it up the road to warm the fluid.
