Dodge: 1992 dodge pu front axle u-joint 1500 series, wheel lug nuts, cotter pin

Question
I want to know how to pull the front axle to replace the u-joint. does the backing plate have to be removed at the ball joints and is there a keeper in the differential that wont let the axle slide out?

Loosen the wheel lug nuts.
Raise the vehicle and support it on jackstands
Remove the wheel
Remove the brake caliper and support it out of the way with wire
Remove the brake disc
Remove the cotter pin and axle hub nut
Remove the hub-to-knuckle bolts
Remove the hub bearing from the steering knuckle and axleshaft
Remove the brake dust shield from the steering knuckle
Carefully pull the axleshaft from the axle housing.
