Question
I live in a very hilly city and I was reversing on a t-intersection.  When I cleared the corner enough so that I can start moving forward downhill, I turned the steering wheel downhill and the car went with gravity.  With my foot still on the clutch and slowly started to release thinking the car will downshift in first however, I forgot to shift gears so ultimately, I was going forward downhill in reverse gear.  The car immediately bucked and had a very high revving sound (not normal) and as soon as I realized I pushed the clutch in and pressed the foot brake at the same time but the engine suddenly died.  And the foot brake locked up along with the steering wheel.  I had to react quickly and use my hand brake in order to stop the car from rolling down this 45 angle declivity.  I managed to slowly ease my car to a leveled ground and open the hood and let the car rest.  After about 5 minutes, the car started up and shifting seemed normal.  My question is I want to make sure I didn't ruin my manual transmission and if I take it in to the mechanic what is he going to check for?  Should I completely replace my transmission before it breaks on me?

Answer
Lori,
This probably would have blown the motor if anything, with the revving up real high. But it would have had to rev high for a long period of time.If the engine runs good i wouldn't worry too much about it.I probably would take it to them and explain what happened. But don't be shocked when they tell you to let them change something. If they tell you this go back home and respond back and tell me what they said. The bucking the car was doing is normal when trying to start a standard shift transmission.it should be fine if this all happened very quickly.
