Ford: Ford Sport Trac Elec, Rear Window, ford sport trac, advance auto parts

Question
QUESTION: My 2002 Sport Trac had an intermittent problem with the rear window going up and down and not closing. I "reinitiated" the motor and it helped for a while. Now it won't go in either direction. I tried to located the fuse, but the diagram in the owner's manual doesn't even list it. Any suggestions?  Thanks!

ANSWER: if you can not find the fuse by checking the labeling in the panel , not surprising, ford is notorious for integrating the oddest systems then labeling them as one circuit, example, on my 87 F-150 my fuel pump fuse was the same one for the radio.
your best bet would be to pull each fuse and check them all one by one, under hood and under dash fuse boxes both. if that does not fix it, you may have to pull apart the door panel to get to the wiring, run a hot 12 volt lead (tap into your cigar lighter outlet) and put voltage direct to the motor, if it works fine, then you probably have a bad rocker switch. if it doesn't work the motor is no good and needs to be replaced. a word of caution, taking apart the door panel needs to be done carefully as a kind of one time use plastic "rivet" is used to attach the panel to the door, the best way is with a flay pry bar and carefully pulling each plastic rivet straight out, or with a door panel tool from advance auto parts, or NAPA.

QUESTION: Thanks Dusty.
I was thinking of doing that, (rmoving the fuses one by one and checking for continuity) but nothing else seems to have a problem electrically, just the window.
I should have been a little more specific, this is the window behind the passenger seats, and is controlled by a round knob on the dash.
(It's labeled "up, down, and vent")
I'm assuming the motor would be located somewhere below the window behind the seats correct?  Thanks again!

Answer
it would have to be in that area, figure dead center of the window, 8" down the wall would put you very close to the exact location of the motor. try pulling the switch and testing the connections, then if they are ok, try jumping the connector directly, or providing it with an outside power, a cigar plug with the end cut works well for this, the cigar plug itself is fused between 10-20 amps so the risk of hurting any wiring by shorting it out is low. if the window works after bypassing the switch, than that is your problem. i belive that switch also has a intermittent function for the vent mode where it will open a small amount only then shut it self off, that may have failed and caused the switch to not make contact.

sight unseen it is hard to properly diagnose any automotive problem, especially wireing and electrical issues. could be anything from a broken wire that makes contact interment to a bad ground. best i can do is give you some common problems and help point you in the right direction.
