Ford: 1999 F350, chassis cabs, wrecked truck

Question
I have a 1999 F350 with a 5.4 and an auto transmission.
It used to be an Ameritech telephone Co. truck, so it has a Service body on it.
My question is how expensive would it be to swap the 5.4 for a diesel engine.
I haven't pulled any trailer with it but I plan to.
I am an Ag Equip. mechanic so I might have some pretty substantial loads.
It has 129,000 miles on it and it runs fine I'm just not sure what the engine will handle as far as pulling.
thanks for the help.

Answer
Hello.

Towing

Model Max. Trailer Weight

Pickups
F-350 SINGLE 13,100
Chassis Cabs
F-350 DUALIE 11,900

As for engine swap costs, It would depend on what you could get a complete engine / transmission assembly for including exhaust, fuel system, computor and wiring , radiator and driveshafts.

Then add 20 hours +/- for re&re

If you could get a wrecked truck cheap enough and did most of the work yourself it may be worth it.
