Ford: E350 Ford Van w/460 gas, air control valve, ford van

Question
Engine starts and runs fine for 15 to 25 minutes, then wants to die unless you keep the revs up; acts like it's flooding. Let the coolant temp go back to ambient, and it will start and run just fine again for 15 to 25 minutes (until coolant warms up) then starts stumbling again and dies at idle. SAME EVERY TIME.
Mr. Raw, the van was used by a church, was serviced so is in good shape, has 72K on it. I believe some switch or sensor is causing a module or relay to act up, but I don't get it. Please help. Thanks. Sam

Answer
hello,

This sounds like a very common idle control problem.

If there are no codes and it typically happens warm, I would replace the Idle Air control valve.

It is an electric motor that opens and closes to maintian desired idle speed and eventually fails as it gets hot, and is good cold.
