Ford: fuel lines on ford ranger how to remove, low tank, clip tool

Question
QUESTION: i can't remove the fuel lines off the 2003 ford ranger with the special tool is their a trick to this?

ANSWER: Hi,

Are you trying to remove the entire fuel line?, or disconnect the tank, filter or engine?

Yes there is a special tool for this.  At the engine, a "spring clip" tool, (commonly used for A/C)is used. At the filter, a different tool can be purchased for little at your local auto jobber shop.  Remember to wear galsses as the fuel is under pressure, and can blind you.

QUESTION: thank you for your respond and help it was a really helpful. now the reason i am changing out the fuel pump and fuel filter is that my ranger is idling rough. i am suspecting the coil pack to be arcing but i am not sure. what advise can you give me on that issue?

Answer
Well, to be sure,  you need to test the fuel pressure key on engine off and then watch for fuel pressure dropping.  If it is within spec and doesn't drop more than 5 psi in 2-3 minutes, i would not condemn the pump.

depending on the engine, vac leaks are common. Coil;s rarely go bad, unless the tune-up was badly neglected.

The most common cause for fuel pump failure is driving on a very low tank.  These pumps demand fuel around them to stay cool.

Fuel Pressure specs- Key on engine off
2.3 and 3.0L=  50-65psi
4,0l flex fuel= 40-50 psi
4.0L gas= 55-65psi
