Ford: 2000 Ford Taurus SEL, ford taurus sel, tie rod ends

Question
Whenever I turn the steering wheel, all seasons, I get a great amount of squeaking.  The steering is VERY firm.  I recently had a power steering flush and that did not help.  Car has 32,000 miles and well maintained.  Any ideas?  Thanks

Answer
Is the noise coming from in the car or outside?
Outside?  you may have problem ball joints or tie rod ends or a problem with the steering rack, but more commonly are the strut bearings.
The drive belt may also be slipping.
If the noise is inside the care, inspect the steering dust boot or column itself.

You may need to get someone to turn the wheel to produce the sound, while someone listens with a stethoscope, or if the noise only appears while moving, a remote electronic stethoscope may be required.
