Ford: Ford Explorer rear window regulator/motor, ford explorer, rear window

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2003 Ford Explorer Driver side rear window that appears to have a problem.  I pulled the panel and there is a metal cord that appears in tact, but I am unsure what/where it attaches. Can this cord be placed back into the assembly or will I need to replace the entire regulator and motor.(I was told that was the case).

ANSWER: Hi,
Generally the guide breaks free of the lift cable or other.  If the motor operates, but doesn't move the window, then yes, a regulator is required.

Whether your parts supplier can get regulator separately or not is another question.

QUESTION: SO for clarity, generally the lift cable cannnot be reattched to the guide correct?  AND how would you remove and replace the regulator?

Answer
I have tried to reattach it , but it always came back and required replacement.

you will need to lower the window to access the window -to-regulator fasteners.  Either rivets or bolts. (If they are rivets, Be extremely careful. drill small (1/8") and tap rivet out. Any sharp tool on the glass will shatter window.  Wear goggles and gloves are a good idea. be prepared for window dropping down when last fastener is removed.  Slide window to the top and hold it there with tape. Unplug motor and remove regulator and motor fasteners.  Reveres for reassembly. test and replace panel.
