Ford: clutch compentents, clutch slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder

Question
i have a 92 f150 with a very spongy clutch pedal  and i have looked at nearly everything  on it and the only thing i can see that might be wrong with it is a part that i can not identify it is inside the cab connected to the clutch pedal on the far left side towards the gas pedal it a small hydraulic ram that compresses when you push and decompress when you release it has a small harness connected to it and i'm not sure what it is called nor what it is connected to on the other side of the fire wall

Answer
This ram device is actually the clutch master cylinder (ps... this wiring is the clutch safety switch). Soft clutch pedal can be many different things on these trucks. Firstly.. make sure you have sufficient brake fluid in the clutch reservoir... if not.. find out where it went... check the bottom of the bell housing( clutch slave cylinder leak) and the firewall in the cab (master cylinder leak)
Other possibilities:
1. has the clutch slave or master been replaced recently?  If so, they are a royal pain to correctly bleed all the air out.

2. The clutch pedal cross shaft bushing wear very quickly, especially in dusty or dirty enviroments. Look under the dash for shaft movement while operating the pedal.

3. Clutch lever at the end of the shaft where the master connects should have a white plastic retainer clip. If this clip is worn or missing, or the hole it is in is elongated, it will cause excessive pedal travel or the linkage will fall off.

4. In some cases, the firewall cracks around the pedal mounting assembly, causing the firewall to flex when the pedal is pushed.

5. finally..The springs in the clutch pressure plate may be broken or worn out.

let me know what you find next.
