Ford: 2003 ford taurus, ford taurus, fluid pressures

Question
i was stopped at a red light to make a left hand turn. half way thru the turn the engine revved up. i looked down and the tach was at 6 or 7. i let off the gas and gave it some again but the engine revved with no forward motion. i coasted off the road and tried all the gears but it is like there are none except for park. it stopped working like somone had flipped a switch to turn it off. i have not had any problems at all with it changing gears (auto trans). what could possibly be wrong with this transmission?

Answer
Hi there David. First off let us check the level in the transmission. With a low level it is not going to work at all. If that doesn't fix things i think we are dealing with a front pump issue and really have no other recommendation for you other than to have the fluid pressures checked. But then again not really something that a do it yourselfer could accomplish without some literature on it. If you are wishing to work on your transmission i recommend getting a manual and seeing if you think you can handle that kind of job.

Hope that helps

Jim

P.s. Sorry for the late reply I was away for the weekend.
