Ford: F150 blower stays on, fuse box, test light

Question
QUESTION: My '98 F150 the blower will keep running if not turned off when you shut the truck off and remove the key.  This runs the battery dead unless I remember to turn the blower off.  Also the airbag light started flashing.
ANSWER: Wow this is a weird one but I think I  would start by testing the ignition switch. There is a possibility it is a GEM module but id be more inclined to start with the switch. I think the air bag is isolated from the other concern personally. the easiest way to test the ignition switch is to remove the lower part of the column and with a test light on ground see if the gray with yellow wire has power on it when the key is off the gray with yellow for that year is your accessory wire and you might find power there with the key off. If this is what you find you need a switch.

Please let me know

QUESTION: I checked the ignition switch and it has no power to that wire with the key off. Is the GEM module hard to check.  Also after I checked the ign. switch when I removed the key the door dinger kept going off even with the key out.  It shut off once the door was closed, but starts as soon as it's open again.  I unhooked the battery and then rehooked it up again and it still does it. Any ideas on that also.  Thanks I appreciate your help.

Answer
wow i think we have the wire for the key in sense misadjusted somewhere Dave. Double check your connections there to see if there all good my 97 f150 does the same thing and it bugs me but being a mechanic i am too lazy to take the column apart and fix it i just keep my door closed. :) perhaps this week i will attend that and get that fixed. As for checking the gem module it is above the fuse box and really the only way to test it is to take it off and look for corrosion on it from water the earlier fords like yours and mine are very susceptible to leaking windshields and then water getting onto the Gem as well as the fuse box. Both Pieces are recommended to be replaced if there is water contamination. Here in Canada it runs about 600 for the two. Hope this sheds some light on your troubles.
