Ford: Have one spark plug that fouls, auto zone, scan tool

Question
I have the 3L V6 and have one plug that will foul and cause my truck to run poorly.  I have about 60000 mi. on the engine and by the way it is a 00 Ranger.  It does not smoke and oil useage seems normal.  I change about every 3000 mi.  What would be causing the fouling, and what would be the cost to fix it?

Thanks, Leon

Answer
Leon,

If you have one plug that keeps fouling it is usually caused by bad rings or a bad valve guide in that one cylinder. Your best bet is to place your vehicle on a scan tool first. You can go to either Auto Zone or Advanced Auto and have this done for free (or you can borrow it if you leave your driver's license with them). You may also want to check and make sure that one plug wire is firing. A bad wire can cause fouling as well. Hope that this helps and if you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck.
