hi, my sons car (1995 3.0) just quit shifting in to drive. it will start in 1st but when it should shift into drive ,it free wheels like a manual clutch. the rpms come down to the mph/speed and it will jump into 1st. can you help? the fluid level is correct.

Dear Mike hate to be the bearer of bad news but sounds like either the trans filter is clog,mlp sensor is out of range or the trans. is going.How many miles are on this vehicle?

the car has 158,000 miles. the tranny is the ax4n model. with a clogged filter shouldn't he of had a warning sign? what can he do before replaces the tranny. he had it looked at, they said it needed a rebuild.

has he had the trans severce every 30,000 miles ?   if not this could do it. and sometimes just like a  pipe it just needs that last piece of hair till it clogs up and then you jet your problems. I would buy one from a comp called ATK there on line we use them all the time cause you get a world wide warr. and it 3 years unlimited miles. do not have it rebuilt from your reg. severe shop or Armco trans shop we have to many problems.and it is always something else and they always need more money. besides they are not that hard to do if you need help let me know and I'll a-mail you or just go to your parts store and get yourself a repair manual.
