GM-GMC: 99 Grand Prix MAF Sensor?, maf sensor, receiver slots

Question
My son's 1999 Pont. Grand Prix GT, 3.8L, AT.  Service engine light is on.  Borrowed Code reader and it showed code: P0102A, MAF/VAF ckt low input.  Not sure what this means.... Also, Bought some MAF sensor cleaner spray.  Removed what looks to be some kind of idle control (unit with a plunger & spring which moves in and out electronically) located just below the MAF sensor and it was carboned-up so I cleaned it with the spray.  before I could re-install, the plunger suddenly shot out and onto the ground.  The plunger has threads and is keyed on each side to fit into receiver slots in the nylon base.  I was afraid to push it in and start turning so I just pushed it in and re-installed in the vehicle but I don't think that is right, is it?
Thanks,
Marvin Brown

Answer
The pintle that you are referring to is threaded, it may thread itself back.  If the car starts and runs ok with no check engine light, you are good to go.  If you still have problems, you may need a new one.  Disconnect the battery if you need to install a new one.  That will ensure it doesn't happen again.
Hope this helps
